Who will show her Jesus?
Marnie is 23. Pretty, tiny, blonde, with an upturned nose and freckles, you wuold expect to see her on the cover of Flare, or Teen Magazine. Instead, she is sitting on George's knee on the sidewalk of East Hastings. She has two black eyes, a swollen blackened nose and is complaining that her head hurts. She was beaten by a 'bad' date'. This is the fifth time that we know of in the last year. Marnie's Mom was a prostitute. Her father was a date. She never knew him. At 11 years old, Marnie came home from school and found her Mom naked on the sofa, dead, with a needle still in her arm. She couldn't handle foster homes and began a life on the street a few months later. She felt at home with drug use and was soon an addict. About 6 years ago, she fell in love and got pregnant. She and her boyfriend moved away from the drug scene, 'cleaned up', and she had their baby. She said for the first time in her life things seemed to be bright until one morning she went into her 4 month old son's room and found him blue, and dead from SIDS. She lost it and soon went back to not feeling the pain through drug abuse. Now, the misery, the rapes and the beatings, the abscesses, and the illnesses are all bearable sitting on George's knee as she shoots more cocaine in her terribly thin little arm.
Please, please pray for a miracle for Marnie, please say a Mass for her.
