Volunteer Reflections
"The reason why I am sharing my story with you is because at that moment I felt that God had called me to help those who are in need. In fact, it isn't just that moment that God has called me, for I know that God has also called all of us to be willing to go out into the world to do what we can. If you believe that "the task ahead of us is never truly as great as the power behind us," you will have the power to accomplish deeds that will assure that justice is done in the world."
Nina, a St. John Brebeuf student
The following are recollections from various street ministers as they bring the Love of Jesus Christ to the streets of Hastings and Cordova, Vancouver, BC and Central Surrey, BC.
In Brief: Any night, on average, over 80 per girls per night
were visited with, for a total of 560 for the week. Each girl was
given a candy bag, with a scripture card inside. Over fifty girls
either asked for prayer or consented to prayer on the street. Five
hundred candy-bags were made up for the week to come, and seven birthday
bags were assembled, and delivered personally to the girls. A recovery
house will be visited this weekend, bringing bibles and used clothing
and shoes. We have enlarged our "walking area" to an extra eight blocks,
as we've found that the police measures have pushed the girls north-eastward
up Hastings. It is anticipated that with warmer weather that the amount
of prostitution and drug-related activities will escalate. Last night
two girls asked specifically for prayer so that they would be able
to enter a recovery house to get off heroin.
