House Parents!
Agape Street Ministry has two Houses of Healing, "Hope-Faith
House", in Surrey, BC., and Sancta Maria House in Vancouver.
These houses are to be places of peace where volunteers will journey
with women who desire to find freedom from drug and alcohol dependency
in a Catholic Christian atmosphere of living out the Gospel.
• Four to six women of any or no faith background may reside
in Hope-Faith House (HFH).
• Nine women of any or no faith background may reside in Sancta
Maria House.
• Activities will be set up to facilitate their journey and
are agreed upon by these women prior to their admittance into Hope-Faith
House.
We are currently looking for "house parents" with missionary
hearts to reside in Hope-Faith House.
• We will offer a small
monthly stipend.
In HFH the basement contains a spacious, well decorated, two-bedroom suite that will insure privacy for the house parents.
In SMH the basement contains a spacious, well decorated, one-bedroom
suite that will insure privacy for the house parents as well as the
same for Support Workers.
The criteria for house parents is as follows:
• "House parents" may be a married hetrosexual couple
or 2 single hetrosexual women;
• They should know and love Jesus and recognize their responsibility
to pass that love on.
• They should believe that He is the true Healer, that He works
through the gifts given us by the Holy Spirit, and that prayer is
the essential ingredient for any work God asks us to be part of.
• They should be caring, compassionate, encouraging, and supportive
of the residents and fellow volunteers.
• They should have a good sense of humor, a positive attitude,
be emotionally mature and somewhat self- disciplined.
• They should be hospitable, welcoming, good listeners, and
be willing to embrace the women on their journey.
• They should be believers in "family" and able to
provide a warm Christian atmosphere in the house. A big part of healing
for persons with addictions is learning to play, to have fun and recreation
without drugs or alcohol.
• Meal preparation, household chores, wake up and bedtime routines
are all part of a loving Christian home and shared by the residents.
• They would be teachers and guides in the household chores
& cooking, menu-planning etc.
• Some understanding of addictions may be helpful but is not
necessary.
They must respect and abide by the policies of Agape Street Ministry,
which are in accordance with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
