Street Ministry
The Street Servants of Vancouver and Surrey focus on spreading the Word of God and His Love to the Women of the Street. Each of these servants has a strong call to serve and believe strongly in our mission - "Tell them I Love them...".
Also, the Street Servants are the front line when working with the women of the street. Not only do they have a strong call to serve the Lord by spreading His Word to the marginalized women of our society, but each has a strong relationship with Jesus. Through their faith and personal relationship with Jesus, we believe that this provides the greatest influence of His word on the street. Street Servants do not distribute Candy - they distribute His Love and hope for a better life. These servants will spend their time on the street talking, laughing, hugging and praying with the women. We do not sit idly or give candy in an objective manner - We care, we love, we hope, we pray - we give them His Word. There is nothing arbitrary in what is done on the street.
A street team cannot walk the streets unless there is a minimum of two people - one man and one woman (some exceptions). A street servant must have a minimum of four nights of walking on the street with one specific team, along with an evaluation, before they are admitted into the program.
As it has taken sometimes many years, to build the trust of the women up to even speak to our teams, we feel it is imperative that the appropriate people be placed into this ministry. Following are preferences we look for in the Street Servant Ministry:
- Strong calling to the Street Servant Ministry
- Strong prayer life
- Active within the Parish/Church
- Participates in parish Bible Studies, Adoration, etc.
- Must be baptised
- Minimum of 1 year as a practicing Catholic Christian or Protestant Christian
